 The En Plein Air Essence- A workshop with Brian Keeler - for artists working in oil, pastel or acrylic.

 

October 4 - October 6th, 2019 - North Star Art Gallery, 743 Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. Come expand your horizons for painting the landscape from nature (or your own references) on a spring weekend at the lovely grounds of the North Star Art Gallery located in Ithaca, NY.

 

Brian Keeler will share his extensive experience creating award-winning landscapes along with all the essential fundamentals of realistic painting. This workshop includes a Friday evening presentation, followed by a two-day hands-on workshop.

 

Brian will be devoting most of his time to assisting the participants, but he will also be painting and demonstrating so as to show many of the aspects of creating a painting or pastel.

 

Schedule

 

Friday night- October 4- 7:00 pm-

 

Welcome reception with refreshments served. Slide lecture at 7:30 on Keeler's unique approach to painting, composing and color use. This presentation will give an overview of the concepts to be covered in this workshop and is necessary for the participants. Open to the public for a fee of $10.

 

Saturday, October 5

 

9:00 am- arrive for a pre-workshop briefing and demo. Set up around the grounds and choose from the inspiring pond and landscape motifs including the 19th century Victorian House, gardens, and woodland walks.

 

Noon- Break for lunch prepared by Chef Tim Cartner

 

1:00- Resume your work or start a new piece

 

3:30- This session ends

 

7:00 pm - Optional Sunset Motif Painting (weather permitting) at Ithaca's beautiful Stewart Park. Set up near the boathouse or along the inlet, footbridge and shore of the inlet on the Golf Course side. This is a great spot to paint the lake, scullers, kayakers, the inlet, Cayuga Lake and Cornell University. As you paint in the atmosphere and light of the evening, think of Seurat on the banks of the Island of La Grande Jatte or Eakins on the banks of the Schuylkill River. Brian Has painted numerous works, plein air and studio work from these vantage points.

Non- participants may attend the Friday lecture for a fee of $10 Make checks payable to North Star Art Gallery. Space is limited. Reservations are requested by May 26th with online payment options available.
 

 

Registration and Payment

 

The fee of $430 includes the evening presentation, two-day workshop and two onsite luncheons prepared by our private chef.  $150 deposit reserves your place with the balance of $280 due at registration.  The Friday evening presentation is available to people not attending the workshop for $10
