"Stirrings of Spring" Exhibition

Ithaca’s newest art gallery presents : “Stirrings of Spring” celebrating the return of Spring! April 6th - 30th, 2018.

"April Over Cayuga Lake" by Brian Keeler

Brian Keeler, an award-winning artist, exhibits a selection of his landscapes celebrating the return of Spring to this beloved region of the Northeast.

The North Star Art Gallery is at 743 Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca. Part of the Greater Ithaca Art Trail, the show begins with the Open Studio Reception on April 7th from 11am to 4pm, with regular gallery hours Friday-Sunday. 11am-4pm and by appointment at 607-323-7684.

The delight that comes from a visit to this exhibition is the heightened sensitivity to viewing our beautiful countryside after seeing it through the artist's eye. The rural landscapes glow in the varied sunlight on houses, streets and landscape elements.

James Mullen, Professor of Art Emeritus at SUNY Oneonta, observed: "One discovers clouds anew. For instance, in the painting "Taylor Avenue Spring Light, Wyalusing PA," a small distant cloud in the upper far right to suggests the wonder and mystery of the infinite while the larger cloud over the house with the street sign below it in the left foreground of the painting speaks to the present time and place, to the temporal aspect of our lives. But one needs to go and see, to find and discover personal meaning."

Keeler’s museum-quality works have received a host of awards and acclaim over a career of thirty plus years. His paintings are widely collected by individuals, corporations, and museums. The Roberson Museum ran a special 6-month exhibit of 95 Keeler works in 2016-17. His works have won hundreds of awards. Keeler was recently recognized with awards for Best Plein Air Oil in 2017 by Plein Air Magazine, the John Arnot Sr. Award for Oil Painting by Arnot Art Museum in Spring 2016, and Top Award for Oil Painting at the Butternut Gallery in Spring 2016.

In addition to the exhibition, the gallery will be hosting a house concert “Stirrings of Spring—and Love” presented by the local noted baritone Kurt Lichtmann on Saturday, April 21 at 4 pm. This will be the third house concert conducted in the Music Room of this gracious Victorian manor, which are continuing due to strong neighborhood supporting interest.

The gallery website at http://www.northstarartgallery.com offers a preview of the works in this exhibition as well as samples of upcoming shows featuring the work of Keeler and other local artists.
